Class of 2021 Scholarship Recipient: Nazarene Campodonico

The New Depot Players is proud to award a $500 scholarship to deserving high school graduates each year. Our Class of 2021 scholarship recipient is Nazarene Campodonico!

Nazarene has performed onstage many times with different groups, including roles in Godspell and Jerry Finnigan’s Sister with Theatre Salem and the opening number of the GA Thespians 2021 All-State Performance. One of her favorite past roles is Piggie from Elephant & Piggie: We Are in a Play.

Nazarene was a panelist for Thespian Nation Live 2021, where she spoke on theatre inclusion and representation with students and educators from across the country. During high school, she won many awards for her talents, including first place in the GHSA Region 4-AAAA Literary Meet (Girl's Solo) for the past three years and semifinalist in the August Wilson Monologue Competition in 2020! She will graduate as salutatorian from Salem High School this spring and plans to major in Music Therapy and minor in Theatre in college. In her own words, "I don’t want to be on Broadway, be famous, or be rich off of theatre performances. Those things aren’t what matters to me. Rather, I want to use what I’ve learned from theatre to create something bigger than myself. After all the years that theatre has motivated and inspired me, I too want to share the light of theatre with others."

In order to be considered for the New Depot Players scholarship, the applicant must have had previous stage or technical theatre experience in their high school, with a community theatre, or with a professional theatre company. They must also have maintained a 3.0 high school GPA, and they must be considering a major or minor in theatre or be able to justify why their theatre experience is important to their intended major. Scholarship winners are selected by a blind selection committee.
