April 30, 2025:
I learned today that my dear friend of 49 years, Nils Florman, had died. Nils was one of the original Depot Players. He was part of the crew who swept 100 years of coal dust out of the Conyers Depot to convert it into a space for the performing arts.
He was in The Rainmaker, which was our very first play in the summer of 1976, almost 50 years ago. Nils played in Harvey, The Country Wife, Night of the Iguana, Camelot, and The Rose Tattoo among many others before he and his wife, Nancy, moved to Florida. Nancy Florman, who died in 2009, was one of our best and most prolific directors. She is remembered by the NDP with The Nancy Florman Director’s Award at the annual Linda P. Wise Awards, coming up August 9, 2025.
On and off stage, Nils and Nancy Florman were a part of the backbone of community theater in Conyers and Rockdale County, and all of us who love this artform owe them a debt of gratitude.
Hank Wise, Cofounder of the original Depot Players
