Places, Everyone.
That’s our new tagline. It’s our new vision for the future, our motto.
The New Depot Players has a place for any member of our community interested any facet of theatre production. From painting, ushering, acting, directing, building and watching, to sponsoring, becoming a member, running lights and sound, and many other opportunities, we have a place for you. We also believe that the arts are the heart and soul of a community.
Founded in 1976, The New Depot Players has been the resident theatre troupe of the Conyers/Rockdale Community. The brainchild of Linda Wise, our stages have seen many participants go on to make theatre their life’s calling. After more than 34 years, we remain committed to offering all members of our community the opportunity to experience live theatre, and to engage them in the process of creation.
For many years we were known simply as The Depot Players, and our home was the old train depot (now home to the Conyers Welcome Center). Eventually, in the early 1990s we left The Depot in search of a new home. For a few years, we even tried out different names! Realizing our roots to The Depot were still strong, we adopted the name The New Depot Players. It’s all pretty simple, actually. That probably explains the train in the logo…
Typically we offer a season of 4 productions, including one musical. Our rich history has brought to the stage Tennessee Williams, Rogers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Studs Terkel, Neil Simon and the works of many, many more. Our vision is to provide opportunities for community enrichment through participation, education, and exposure to live theatre.
Other things we’d like to do, include:
- To provide a curriculum of programs and classes as the central core of our organization’s artistic vision, productions and operations and to develop a diverse, learning community,
- To enhance and support the missions of other charitable organizations that offer outreach programs in our local community, and
- To fashion and position Rockdale County as a place where people choose to live and companies choose to do business within a diverse, culturally rich community rooted in the arts.
